Highlights for 1984

Men’s Lightweight 4 – 1 st Place at NOVA’s

Men’s Varsity 8 – 2 nd Place at NOVA’s, 7 th at Stotesbury, 6 th at Nationals

Men’s JV 8 – 2 nd Place at NOVA’s, 10 th at Stotesbury

Men’s Novice 8 – 3 rd Place at NOVA’S

Women’s Lightweight 8 – 2 nd Place at NOVA’S, 2 nd Place at Stotesbury, 2 nd Place at Nationals


On April 6, 1984 Woodbridge Boys Varsity eight earned the first ever 1 st Place Medal in a Regatta at the
T.C. Williams invitational. (Rowers: Stroke Chris Anderson, Ken Kopka, Darral Swift, Derrick Nenniman,
Jimmy Pierce, Ron Rodgers, Agusto Osrio, John Celata, Cowswain Elaine Gracey).
This boat was left a winning
legacy for Woodbridge in the programs fourth season as this boat would be the
first Boy’s Varsity Eight Boat to win a Varsity Eight Regatta. It later finished 6 th at Nationals, the highest
ever Varsity Boys Varsity Eight finish at Nationals. Jimmy Pierce, an oarsman on this boat went on to
row at MIT in college and was four-time rower (1989,90,91,92) on the U.S. National Team.
