2002 – 2005 – U.S. Military Academy

2005 – Mike was a four year rower for the U.S. Military Academy but undoubtedly the greatest highlight of his collegiate rowing occurred at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships on June 4 th at the Cooper River in Camden County, New Jersey. On that day the Army Straight Four crew won Army its first every gold medal and National Championship. Army’s national champion straight four crew featured team captain and four-year IRA competitor, 2nd Lt. Michael Bales at stroke. Army’s previous best in this event was a third-place finish in 2003.
